One of the highlights of my year is the annual hunting trip to West Virginia. A few of my family members and I will pack up the truck, leave Florida and begin our trek northward. Leaving behind the stress of work and life in general, I can truly relax and focus on the hunt.

My group all lives in the Orlando Florida area. Generally, by the time we are all packed and refreshed from a hard day of doing construction, we will hit the road around 8:00 PM. The drive is around 12 hours. We always opt to drive straight through the night by alternating drivers. Twelve hours sounds like a long drive, however, our adrenaline is always working overtime by this point, so the time passes quickly. We arrive at out destination around 8:00 AM.

Day one is spent in the woods scouting out the area. I look for rubs, scrapes and any paths the deer have been using. Once I have found the perfect spot, I set up my Gorilla climbing stand and get everything set for the next morning.

Day two starts early. I am up before dawn, and positioned on my tree-stand before daybreak. The pattern repeats itself all week. After what I consider to be one of the greatest weeks of the year, it is time to pack everything up and head home. Our next trip is in coming up in a few months and preparation are already being made. It seems each year's trip is always a little better than the previous. Wish me luck!
