Pepper spray is an ozone safe non-lethal way to protect yourself against all kinds of danger. Just read your local newspaper and you will realize the unfortunate truth that we live in a dangerous world. Not only do we have to contend with career criminals, but also the sexual predators that roam our streets. I am lucky, I have never been the direct victim of a violent crime. Unfortunately, based on statistics, it is a matter of time before I, or a close friend or loved one will be. So what’s a person to do?
First understand that taking safety precautions is not being paranoid. Threats exist in our world from many sources. In addition to the human element, one must also be on guard against out-of-control dogs (I am a dog lover, and this situation is always caused by bad owners) and depending on where you live maybe even a bear. When faced with an attack, your job is to escape with as little injury—hopefully none—as possible.
Being safe requires you to be aware of your environment and to be prepared to respond to an attacker(s). Fire-arms are out. Likely if you do carry a gun, it will be in your car or at home. If you feel threatened, a stun-gun is certainly effective, but it requires you to carry it in your hand. This may appear somewhat awkward when walking in a parking garage, or down the street. It also requires that you are within arms reach of your attacker, not always the best situation.
My recommendation: pepper stray on a key chain. It doesn’t draw attention to you, provides an excellent deterrent if a problem arises and because it is attached to your key-chain, is generally with you at all times.
How Does Pepper Spray Work?
When pepper spray is sprayed into the eyes and face, it irritates the skin, eyes, and mucous membranes of the upper respiratory tract (throat). This promotes a temporary coughing and choking sensation. It is very uncomfortable and there is some pain associated with it. The end result is temporary incapacitation, mostly due to not being able to see.
Bottom-line the attacker is too preoccupied with pain and blindness to do anything violent to you.
Is Pepper Spray Legal?
Yes, with a few restrictions. Obviously you can’t carry pepper spray on a commercial flight. Also a few states have some restrictions. If you live in Massachusetts, Michigan, New York and Wisconsin please check the restrictions.
